All major sports have an Injured Reserve or a Disable List for players who suffer injuries and can’t perform up to their capabilities for a period of time. The sport of Auto Racing has no such luxury as drivers battle tooth and nail with each other with various aches and pains. There does come a time however when some injuries won’t allow a driver to perform up to his standards and thus is literally forced away from the drivers seat.

In the last ASA Late Model Series Northern Division race, which was at the Hawkeye Downs (IA) Speedway in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on September 1, 2007 in the Seventh Race of the 2007 season; The Hawkeye 100 Presented by Coors Light and Cassill Motors, 15-year-old Chad Finley suffered a severe break to his Left Thumb in a Mid-Race accident. In addition, the break has torn his Thumb completely away from the joint and the young Finley may need surgery

“We were just riding being very patient and making our way towards the front. Our lap times were close to what the leaders were running! “ Stated the 15-year-old. “Coming out of Turn Four for the green just before halfway, a car was stalled in the turn and they just started stacking up and we went low and got caught up in it. That’s the way our luck has been. I think we had a To 10 car but we will never know. “ A dejected Finley added. He started 28th and was running 14th when the accident occurred!

As for Finley’s injury, Doctors have reset the Thumb in hopes it will grow back together within a week to Two weeks. If it doesn’t grow back properly, the DeWitt, Michigan teenager will have to undergo surgery and will be forced to miss the remaining 2007 ASALMS Northern Division Season!

With the youngster out of at least the next ASALMS North event, Team Finley Racing Car Owner and Crew Chief, Jeff Finley has called on the services of Columbus, Ohio veteran, Robbie Pyle to carry the #25 colors for the next ASALMS Northern Division Race at the Grundy County (IL) Speedway on Sunday September 9, 2007 for the 1st annual Bob Milner Memorial 125
