Funny Car Driver Tim Wilkerson Moves To The No. 10 Position At Pomona NHRA

With only one qualifying session today at the Automobile Club of Southern California Finals, Tim Wilkerson was looking to improve on his run from yesterday.  But Wilkerson’s plan didn’t have the outcome he was hoping for, so he didn’t see an improvement and ended in the No. 10 position

Wilkerson’s Levi, Ray & Shoup Impala SS spun the tires around 150 feet down track and he coasted to a 6.956 at 89.10 mph.

“We had new tires on the thing,” said Wilkerson “and that really wasn’t what we would do in today’s conditions.  But we have to get to Sunday with some used tires, so we had to skid some in.  And on top of that, I thought I had it backed up enough to go, but I just had it tuned-up too much.  It had too much wheel speed when it left and it kind of washed out at about 60 or 70 feet and when I was dragging it back, it smoked the tires.

“So, it was my fault.  I just had it too tuned-up.  I was trying to run a .09 or something like that.  But when it left the line, it was spinning the tire and it never recovered.  I guess it was a bad plan on my part.  Hopefully, tomorrow we can stay in the show and everything will be good.”
