F1: Malaysia To Host F1 Grand Prix Till 2015 Ferrari

Malaysia will continue to host grands prix until 2015 after it signed an extension to its contract with Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone.

The country’s motorsport commission announced on Friday that it had extended its deal with Formula One Management by five years after it was set to expire in 2010. ITV

Chairman Datuk Azman Yahya said the contract was actually signed in July, with Sepang now committed to staging a night race ‘at any time upon notification’ by Formula One Management, which is led by Bernie Ecclestone.

Sepang boss Datuk Mokhzani Mahathir, however, clarified in a press conference that the circuit had not yet made any decisions about lighting infrastructure for the future. HomeOfSport

However, he added that any system would need the approval of the FIA and the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA), which run the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

“FIA has not told us about the specifications for the night race. They have engaged a company, which would be conducting a test in Paul Ricard Circuit (in France) in September. Whatever system to be installed at Sepang would require the approval of FIA and DCA,” he said. TheStar
