Mosley To Host The Jordan Rally
Apr 17, 2008
Motor racing supremo Max Mosley will be special guest of the organisers of the Jordan Rally from April 24 to 27, rally chiefs said.
“We are pleased to announce that FIA president Max Mosley will be present at the Jordan rally at the invitation of His Majesty Prince Feisal Al Hussein, president of Jordan Motorsport,” a statement read.
“Max has always been a great friend and ally of Jordan. So we are delighted he will come to share this historic moment with us,” according to the prince.
International Motoring Federation (FIA) president Mosley is currently in the news for taking part in sex games with five prostitutes and last week lost an attempt in a London court to force footage of the incident off the internet as he launches a legal claim for breach of privacy.
The footage was viewed nearly 1.5 million times in the two days between the News of the World tabloid first putting the video on its website and later removing it.
When the scandal broke Mosley missed the following week’s Grand Prix in Bahrein and several motor racing federations have called on him to step down.
The Jordan Rally will be the first WRC date to be held in the Arab world in over three decades and the crown prince of Jordan, HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein, has expressed his delight at the news.
“While the private lives of individuals are of no concern to MSA, we cannot condone the behaviour of the FIA President,” Motorsport South Africa general manager Beaulah Schoeman said.
“It has not only brought the FIA, but all FIA members and motorsport, into disrepute. It could also result in sponsors deciding to distance themselves from motorsport.
“We therefore agree [unanimously] that Mr Mosley should stand down as FIA President.”
Representatives of bodies from the United States, Great Britain, Holland, Israel and New Zealand among others have all called on the Briton to step aside.
