Mar 31, 2008
Newly-appointed head of the Cross Country Commission of the Kenya Motor Sports Federation, Ian Duncan met with senior members of the his organising team last week to negotiate plans for the opening round of the series to be held on April 19-20.
His distinguished career has seen him clinch several major titles and won many accolades in Kenya National Rally Championship, National Autocross races, Rhino Charge, Safari Rally, Motocross, Enduro Race among other competitions.
Duncan said his vision was to make the Cross Country Championship a major sporting arena for both the spectator and competitors alike.
To achieve his dreams, Duncan said he needed financial support from major sponsors to help emulate corporate like KCB which has turned the image of the local rallying into a major show piece with massive interest from both the sponsors and spectators alike.
“It a dream to make the competition grow in popularity and fame. That can only be achieved with the help of the sponsors like what KCB has done to the KNRC,’’ said Duncan.
The competition is open to all types of machines ranging from motor bikes, cars, buggies, quads, trucks to 4×4 vehicles.
Plans are also underway for Kenya to stage an International Cross Country next year with hope of attracting competitors from around the globe those with machines and quality of drivers equivalent to the world famous Paris/Dakar Marathon Rally.
