Wes Burton To Run For The Rookie Of The Year Title In ASALMS Southern Division
Feb 16, 2007
At age 26, Wes Burton knows it’s time to get his career on the fast-track if he wants to fulfill his dream of competing professionally as a race car driver. Burton started his career in go-karts across the state of Florida and up the east coast through his early years.
When he was old enough to run full-size cars, Wes ran an open wheel modified at tracks like Bronson Speedway and Ocala Speedway in Florida. After high school, Burton realized he needed a leg-up on his racing competition and headed to Charlotte, North Carolina to get his mechanical engineering degree.
Burton now works as an engineer at Hendrick Motorsports and is looking to prove to everybody that he is a driver that has an engineering degree rather than an engineer who drives race cars as a hobby. “We’re really excited about 2007, “ says Burton. “We’ve put together a real ambitious schedule. Since I retained my rookie eligibility, we’re going to run the full ASALMS South schedule and try for rookie of the year honors. “ Burton explaind,
“We’re also wanting to run ORP, Bristol, Nashville, and a few other non-south races. The ASALMS has put together an awesome lineup of tracks that allow the low budget racers to get some big-time experience. “ Burton added.
Burton is looking to enhance his driving skills by entering a few dirt races. “I’m going to get to make my dirt late model debut in the summer of 2007. We acquired a good, straight dirt late model last summer, and Carl Grover is going to let me use one of his engines to run a few races. “
