What Happened To The Mayfield Saga?
I’m going through withdrawal.
Have we actually gone more than a week without any mention of NASCAR vs. Jeremy Mayfield?
Makes you wonder, doesn’t it? Does Mayfield have another ace he’s going to pull out of his sleeve, like one of his most recent ones when he showed documentation that he had no traces of any illegal substances in his system, not to mention having that corroborated by Dr. Harold Schueler, the chief medical examiner in Broward County, Fla., one of the most respected at his position in the business.
But I admit I’m not only going through withdrawal, I’m also troubled.
What happened to the “15 or 16 independent” drug test results that Mayfield promised to release to the media a few weeks back?
What happened to the wrongful death suit he was ready to file “the next day” against his stepmother, Lisa Mayfield, who Jeremy Mayfield alleged shot and murdered his father two years ago – as opposed to the death being ruled suicide shortly after an autopsy was performed? Lisa Mayfield stepped forward three weeks ago, alleging that she had witnessed Jeremy indulge in illegal methamphetamine use and consumption “over 30 times.”
What happened to Mayfield having a new, big sponsor for the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard? That apparently fizzled out.
And what about Mayfield assuring fans that he’ll soon be back driving for someone, even if it’s not for his own team that he formed last off-season?
I still believe in Jeremy’s innocence, but I admit I’m starting to have a few doubts, particularly with him making several allegations as I’ve mentioned above, yet hasn’t delivered on any of them.
I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and say that maybe his lawyers told him to be quiet, that any information or evidence that he had, should be revealed only in court – and would likely be the place most beneficial for Mayfield for that information to be revealed.
In other words, maybe Mayfield finally heeded his attorney’s advice not to “try” his case against NASCAR in the media or public spotlight, but to let the judicial system do its thing for him.
But darn, I sure wish we had some fresh news. It would liven up the soap opera attached to it so very well.
