Australian drag racing fans are bracing for another American invasion, and they’re hoping it will be every bit as exciting as last year’s Australia vs. USA Top Fuel Showdown, where national records were shattered. The 2007 International Top Fuel Challenge at Western Sydney Int’l Dragway will star Mike Dunn and Cory McClenathan, who will face the best racers on the Aussie tour.
Dunn, McClenathan, crew chiefs Glenn Mikres and Wes Cerny, and several American-based crewmembers will depart the United States Dec. 1 for the event, which will take place Dec. 8-9 at WSID in New South Wales. Both teams plan to test on “Wicked Wednesday, “ with Dunn piloting Aussie businessman Santo Rapisarda’s dragster and McClenathan behind the wheel of WSID CEO Jim Read’s rail.
This will be a return visit for Dunn, who helped open WSID with an appearance in 2004. McClenathan has never visited Australia.
“I’m not going down there for vacation; I’m going to win, “ Dunn said.
