Kovalainen happy with momentum
Jun 28, 2007
Heikki Kovalainen believes expectations have risen in the wake of his revival in North America.
The young Finn initially struggled to make his mark in Formula One, finding himself overshadowed by another rookie in McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton.
After being promoted from test driver to racer by Renault, the 25-year-old concedes he initially “overstepped the mark,” claiming just three points in his first five races.
His situation showed no sign of improving when he qualified 22nd for the Canadian Grand Prix, but the race’s remarkable circumstances allowed him to finish a season-high fourth.
Kovalainen then followed up with fifth in the United States Grand Prix a week later, a race he led at one stage for a handful of laps.
