Former Australian Touring Car Champion, John Bowe, and former rugby league star Jack Elsegood will join with team owner Chris Delfsma in the WPS Bathurst 12-Hour Showroom Enduro at Mount Panorama on April 8.
The trio will contest the WPS 12-Hour Showroom Enduro in the Century 21 Hazelbrook Ford BF Falcon XR8.
With an Australian Touring Car Championship (ATCC) and two Bathurst victories to his name, Bowe is one of the most experience campaigners in Australian Motorsport. In addition to the 211 starts between his career in the ATCC and V8 Supercar Championship Series he also has 10 wins from 27 starts in the Australian Production Car Championship and Nations Cup Series.
Bowe competed in a number of 12-Hour races during the early 90’s for the factory Mazda team and also competed alongside 1980 Formula One World Champion Alan Jones in a BMW.
“I’ve previously won the 12-Hour race with Dick Johnson in a Mazda Rx-7 and think they are fantastic events, they require a very different discipline to other forms of Australian motorsport, especially V8 Supercars,†said Bowe.
“The race is absolutely relevant to the motoring industry and deserves to grow in stature. Bathurst is a fantastic circuit and I think it is going to be a very exciting event for everyone involved.
“The car I will be driving is a normal car you can buy out of the showroom. It is standard everything and while I don’t expect us to be an outright contender I do hope to go well in our class.
“Chris is new to racing and I’m hoping to be able to give the benefit of some of my experience to assist him with his career.â€
Understandably Delfsma, who will be making his Mount Panorama debut, is delighted to be joined by Bowe and Elsegood, who is a regular competitor in the V8 Utes Championship, for the event.
“This is a furious start to the season, getting the car ready for Bathurst is a massive task but I’m confident we will head to Bathurst fully prepared,†said Delfsma
“I’m fortunate enough to have a great team of guys behind the car who I have every faith in and I’m really excited to be working with JB and Jack. JB will really bring invaluable experience to this race and I hope to learn a lot from him since this is my first visit to the mountain.â€
Owners of cars which were previously raced in the Lotus Trophy Series were given a boost recently when CAMS AMRC approved a class for Lotus Exige and Elise. The Lotus entries will race in a specific Lotus Class. Details available on www.bimf.com.au
Time is running out for competitors with only two weeks until entries close for the WPS 12-Hour Showroom Enduro.
The 2007 WPS Bathurst International Motor Festival will be held at Mount Panorama on April 6-8, incorporating the WPS 12-Hour Showroom Enduro on Sunday April 8.
