Felipe Guimaraes Wins The Brazilian National Karting Title At Velopark A1GP.com

A1 Team Brazil’s Felipe Guimarães picked up the Brazilian National Karting title last weekend at the Velopark circuit in Brazil. The 17-year-old hotshot, who was Brazil’s rookie driver at last season’s A1GP events in Mexico City and Shanghai, took the crown in the top national series – the Campeonato Brasileiro de Kart, Graduados A.

The title is the biggest of its kind in Brazil and is won by overall points from heats, qualifying and multiple races. It has previously been won a record six times by another A1 Team Brazil driver; Sergio Jimenez, who scored A1 Team Brazil’s only podium of the 2007/08 campaign at the Sepang Circuit in Malaysia last November.

Last weekend’s battle was a highly fought contest with exciting wheel-to-wheel racing, and Felipe was right in the thick of the action, eventually taking the championship victory after a brilliant weekend’s work.

Felipe Guimarães: “I am really happy to be champion as this is an important competition and it is a very good result in my career. It was a difficult weekend, which makes it even better to win. I had a really good fight with Sergio Jimenez, who is a very good driver and has won this championship many times, so I am very happy to take the title after a weekend of really good fun racing.”
