DMB Motorsports and Jim Bernheisel left their Lebanon, PA shop with great expectations for the Hagerstown/Winchester Shootout this past Friday evening. Those expectations stayed with the DMB Motorsports team as Jim’s bad luck with the pill draw finally stepped aside long enough for Jim as he started his heat race event on the front row.
Jim would go on to finish second in his heat race which put him on the pole for the 40-Lap, $3,000 to win event. Unfortunately for Bernheisel, the bottom was not the place to be that night. “I wasn’t any good on the bottom, ” stated Jim who fell as far back as 15th. Bernheisel found the top side to his liking after falling deep into the field and was able to move his Lazer Chassis/Bernheisel Race Components/Edge Racing Engines/Morrissey’s Meats/Pontiac Grand Prix back up through the field to a 7th place finish. “When I found the top it was too late, it’s disappointing to start on the pole and finish 7th but it was good to rebound to 7th. ”
The next night the DMB Motorsports team found themselves at Winchester Speedway for night two of the Hagerstown/Winchester Shootout. Again luck was on Jim’s side as he drew pole position for his heat race. Jim would go on to win that heat race by a sizable margin. The heat race win put Jim in the 3rd starting position for the 40-Lap main event. At the drop of the green flag Bernheisel was clipped from behind and spun around but was able to rejoin the field in his 3rd starting spot for the restart as he never came to a complete stop.
