Bright racing star Chad McCumbee, driver of the No. 8 GPS Store/Garmin Craftsman Truck Series Chevy, will co-host a Webinar for Future Stars in Racing Academy at 7:00 Tuesday evening, October 2.
McCumbee will speak on topics including how various people, including Andy Hillenburg and the Petty team, have helped him in his career. He also will talk about the sacrifices made by his family and the commitment needed by young drivers to advance in the sport.
Academy members and participants in the Webinar will be able to email questions to Chad to be answered in the Webinar. The address for these will be emailed to registrants.
“I am so excited to have Chad McCumbee as a guest host next Tuesday, ” said Academy founder and president Rolfe Schnur in announcing the event. “He is an outstanding young man who is truly focused on succeeding in racing.
“Chad is going to share his sacrifices and some of the story of his racing career, and we are opening the Webinar to racers all over the world for them to participate.
“I’m really excited to start the relationship with Future Stars, ” said McCumbee. Future Stars is a great building block for drivers. ”
McCumbee has already taken advantage of media training from the Academy and the experience led him to recommend it to any young driver. He also is offering his assistance, to the Academy in its training of young drivers. “If I can help someone get to the level I’m at or even better, that’s great, ” he explained. ”If I can help someone else, I’m giving back to the sport. ”
Before starting his career as a stock car racer, McCumbee raced karts where he scored nearly 100 victories and three track championships. He moved to the Allison Legacy Series where he won Rookie of the Year, Regional and National championships in his first season of racing that series. The next year, he won the National championship again, the only driver to achieve that to date.
Following those successes, he asked Andy Hillenburg how he could become a successful professional race driver, taking Hillenburg’s advice and eventually becoming an instructor for Hillenburg’s Fast Track racing school. While there, he was tapped to take the role of Dale Earnhardt Jr. in ESPN’s movie “3. ”
McCumbee drove the Petty Enterprises car in the ARCA RE/MAX Challenge race earlier this year at Pocono, returning the fabled team to Victory Lane for the first time since John Andretti’s victory at Martinsville in 1999. He scored another ARCA race victory at Nashville earlier in 2007. The Pocono victory saw the young driver overcome a flat tire early in the race to win after racing his way back onto the lead lap.
