Corsa Motorsports, which is owned by Steve Pruitt of Sandy, makes history next Sunday at Miller Motorsports Park.
During the Utah Grand Prix, Pruitt will introduce the world’s first ethanol/electric prototype for full-time racing in the American Le Mans Series.
The car, a Ginetta-Zytek hybrid, will race in the LMP1 class. It is powered by ethanol-fueled internal combustion engine and a high-tech electric motor.
“I am truly excited about this opportunity,” said Pruitt, “... because of the technological relevance this car represents as society looks to the world’s need for global energy reform. The hybrid system is untried in the harsh conditions of endurance racing. [But] if it proves successful, it will transcend motorsports by its social and technical relevance.”
Corsa Motorsports formerly campaigned a Ferrari in the GT2 class of the American Le Mans Series. It raced a slightly different version of its current Zytek car at the end of last year and finished third in the season finale at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
The Corsa team’s drivers are Sweden’s Stefan Johansson and Britian’s Johnny Mowlem .
