With a full field entered for the Telcel Motorola Mexico “200†presented by Banamex yesterday at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodriguez, Brad Keselowski and the Oklahoma Centennial Chevrolet Monte Carlo #23 race team attempted to negotiate the left and right turns against a field of veteran racecar drivers known for their road course expertise. After NASCAR officials found a crack in the inlet neck to the fuel cell, which was determined to have happened in the last practice during pre-qualifying inspection, the #23 team was unable to make the necessary changes in time and produce the car for qualifying before the expiration of the five minute clock, thus relegating Keselowski to the 41st starting position. Immediately after the green flag dropped on lap 2, the #23 racecar encountered an engine failure. Finishing 43rd, Keselowski stated, “I’m very disappointed, I was hoping to gain some much needed and valuable seat time here. â€
Keselowski returns next week to Las Vegas Motor Speedway where he competed at the track before the banking was increased while racing in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. With steeper banking in place at the speedway, the race team couldn’t rely on past notes during its last test there in January, but crew chief, Ronnie Griffin, believes that the necessary adjustments have been made to the racecar. The Sam’s Town 300 is scheduled for this Saturday, March 10, 2007 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
