Kyle Busch won at Phoenix International Raceway and finished 0.479 seconds ahead of Hornaday. Skinner was eighth and was passed by Bill Davis Racing teammate Johnny Benson in the closing six-lap green-flag run.
Harvick, in his self-owned No. 2 Camping World Chevrolet Silverado, drove through second-place driver Skinner’s pit stall en route to his own. That was a legal move under NASCAR rules.
Jacques Villeneuve bumped Stacy Compton coming off Turn 4. Compton lost control and went down into Andy Lally. The force of Lally’s impact was enough to crack the concrete pit wall, the largest jagged chunk measuring about 2 feet by 1 foot. Lally was reported to be awake and alert but was transported to a hospital for evaluation.
The race was stopped for just over 16 minutes while the wall was repaired. Busch’s Chevy wasn’t challenged on the restart, but Hornaday, in third place, rubbed with Mike Bliss and made the pass for second place. Michael Knight, AZCentral.com
Kyle Busch ended two weeks of frustration Friday night by leading the final 42 laps to win the Truck Series race at Phoenix International Raceway.
Championship contender Ron Hornaday finished second, and series points leader Mike Skinner was eighth. Skinner started the race with a 57-point lead on Hornaday, but the margin was trimmed to 29 heading into next week’s finale in Homestead, Fla.
“I just try to stay positive with everything,” Skinner said. “We’ll go to Homestead and hammer down.”
Busch, who started eighth in the 36-truck field, led only once for final 42 laps of the 150-lap race to score his sixth NCTS victory of his career. Jenna Fryer, NASCAR.com
