Audi have rejected claims from rivals Peugeot that their Le Mans 24 Hour entry, the R15 TDI, does not conform to technical regulations.
Peugeot lodged a protest against the front bodywork design of the R15 earlier on Wednesday, stating elements of the Audi’s design are illegal and called for race organisers to clarify the rules.
But Audi maintain their design does conform to the regulations, and are confident Peugeot’s protest will be thrown out. “Audi has no doubt that the car corresponds to every point of the regulations,” an Audi spokesman confirmed. The Press Association
If the protest is upheld by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, Audi would almost certainly withdraw from the race rather than make fundamental changes to their diesel powered-prototype just days before this weekend’s race.
However, even Peugeot admits that scenario is unlikely, but says that they will take their case to the sport’s governing body, the FIA if, as expected, it is rejected by the ACO as they seek clarification of the rules.
“Our protest dossier was already ready at the [Sebring 12 hours in March], but the Automobile Club de l’Ouest made assurances that it would take the necessary steps ahead of the Le Mans 24 hours,” said Peugeot sporting director, Olivier Quesnel. Telegraph.co.uk
