With the win, Hornaday became the first two-time winner at New Hampshire International Speedway, which has now hosted 11 truck races.
Hornaday, who also won at NHIS in 1996, entered the afternoon with a 4-point lead in the standings over Skinner. But with his dominant victory, Hornaday stretched his advantage to 24 points. Fluto Shinzawa, Globe Staff
It took more than 10 years, but Ron Hornaday Jr. is finally back in Victory Lane at New Hampshire International Speedway.
Hornaday, who won the first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race here in 1996, blew away the field by leading 174 laps to win the New Hampshire 200 yesterday.
“This is a win that’s going to stick with me a long time,” Hornaday said. “This is a championship-caliber win right here.” David Exum, BostonHerald.com
His victory moved him 29 points ahead of Mike Skinner in the standings.
Erik Darnell, who won the truck race at Kansas Speedway this season, finished second on Saturday.
Skinner finished third, keeping Hornaday within reach in the points battle. And third, Skinner said, was about the best he could hope for Saturday.
“We just flat-out got our butts kicked today,” Skinner said. “Ronnie put on a clinic.” KansasCity.com
