NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series: Tim Sauter Returns Home to Wisconsin

Tim Sauter

Friday will be a homecoming for Tim Sauter as the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series comes to Sauter’s home track, The Milwaukee Mile. Tim will be the fourth Sauter to compete in the NCTS at The Mile; his Father Jim and brothers Johnny and Jay have all previously run in NCTS races at The Mile.

The famous Wisconsin speedway was also the site of a very special day for the Sauter family. In 2002, Jim and his three sons all competed in the same NASCAR Busch Series race. Tim qualified 3rd (a career best) and finished 9th besting his family on that hot June afternoon, his highest finish at the track located only two hours from his Necedah, WI home.

“Every race is important, especially here in the trucks where the schedule is only 25 races,” said Sauter. “Aside from Daytona, I think every racer looks forward to running at their home track. Nothing means more than a good finish in front of your family and friends.”

The Green Light Racing team has a long history at The Mile. Co-owner Bobby Dotter who hails from near-by Chicago has driven at The Mile on eleven occasions; he has seven starts in the NBS including a pole in 1993 and four starts in the NCTS with a best finish of 12th. His father, Bob Dotter Sr. has raced at The Mile on many occasions in various racing series. In 2001 both Dotter and partner Gene Christensen competed in the NCTS race with Bobby finishing 27th and Gene 32nd.

Sponsor Lester Buildings also has a tradition building at the Milwaukee Mile. While not a as long as the Sauter or Dotters families, Lester Buildings was the presenting sponsor of an ASA National Tour race at The Mile back in 2004 and has since become a sponsor – as the official builder of The Mile—of the oldest continually operating motor speedway in the world. “We are proud of our association with the Milwaukee Mile. It’s a great group of people who run a first-class facility,” said Lester Buildings Marketing Director Tom Borgman. ““The Mile is an extension of our entire racing program and we get tremendous exposure in a large, key area of our market.”

Race fans are encouraged to enter the Lester Buildings “Race Fan Building Sweepstakes” for a chance to win a Lester “Town & Country” building with an MSRP of approximately $30,000 by mailing the coupon from Tim’s autograph card or by completing an online form found at JAYSKI.com, including the site’s expanded Craftsman Truck news pages.

• The Toyota Tundra Milwaukee 200 will be Tim’s 14th start in the NCTS and 127th career NASCAR start.

• This will be the sixth time Tim has competed at The Milwaukee Mile in a NASCAR event.

• Tim’s career best NASCAR start (3rd) came at The Milwaukee Mile on June 30, 2002 in the NBS.

• Tim’s best finish at the The Milwaukee Mile was 9th on June 30, 2002 in the NBS.

• Tim is currently 20th in NCTS driver points.

• This will be the eighth season Green Light Racing has competed at The Milwaukee Mile in the NCTS. Best finish; 8th on June 25th, 2004 with Shane Sieg driving the #07.

• Both of Green Light Racing’s owners; Bobby Dotter and Gene Christensen have competed at The Milwaukee Mile in the NCTS.

Tim’s thoughts on The Milwaukee Mile: “It means so much to me, to my whole family to race here at Milwaukee. We all grew-up watching Dad race here. We’ve competed against each other, we’ve helped each other, but this is the first year in long time that there is only one Sauter racing at the Mile, it just feels different being the only one. I think we are bringing a pretty good truck and I hope to do my best to uphold the Sauter name here in front of the hometown fans.”

There are 35 entries for the Michigan 200 will be televised live on SPEED TV at 8:30 eastern on June 22nd and also broadcast on MRN radio. Johnny Benson is the defending race winner.
