Orange India Holdings is headed by Indian businessman Vijay Mallya and Spyker’s director of F1 Michiel Mol. It’s not yet known what the future name of the team will be but principal Colin Kolles previously said a change is likely if the regulations permitted.
Shareholders of Spyker Cars N.V approved the sale at a meeting on September 29th as part of a refinancing structure. The original price offered was €80 million but after the negotiations the amount was increased to an agreed €88 million. Nikki Reynolds
When the Spyker F1 team arrives in China next weekend, it will be under new ownership.
Dutch automaker Spyker Cars NV says its shareholders have approved the sale of the F1 team to a consortium led by Indian billionaire Vijay Mallya, who will pay $123-million US for the team.
The group also includes Michiel Mol, who stepped down as the CEO of the carmaker as the details of the sale were finalized. TSN.ca
Spyker Cars confirmed on Friday that the team had been handed over to new owners Orange India Holdings for £61m.
Spyker paid £51m for the Midland F1 outfit in 2006 but have not made an impact in this season’s championships, winning just one constructors’ point.
With him in charge, it could mean an Indian driver in F1 next season, potentially Narain Karthikeyan, who is currently a test driver for Williams.
