According to Red Bull officials, Manayunk has the most suitable and steepest hills in the Philadelphia metro area for the Red Bull Soapbox Race. Most importantly, Manayunk has an internationally known hill “The Wall” made famous by 24 years of the Philadelphia pro cycling event - this couldn’t be a better fit for the race!
This half-mile course is sure to test not just speed but engineering ability as all carts must be non-motorized and entirely human-powered.
At Red Bull Soapbox Race, teams are judged on three criteria: speed, creativity, and showmanship. So while good tires, aerodynamics and a solid construction can get you to the starting line, you might not make it to the podium. The more outrageous the cart the better!
