BRDC (British Racing Drivers’ Club) President and 1996 FORMULA 1 World Champion, Damon Hill was at Silverstone this week (Tuesday 6 March) to lend his support to the circuit’s season-long ‘Back The Brits’ campaign, celebrating the fact that four British drivers will line up on the start grid at this year’s FORMULA 1™ Santander British Grand Prix (6-8 July 2007).
The Fab Four - Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton, Anthony Davidson and David Coulthard - will make up just under one fifth of the F1 grid when the new season gets underway, and 2007 will be the first time in five years that the British public have been able to get behind four British drivers. The drivers supported the ‘Back The Brits’ campaign when they came together for a photocall, helping to promote the big race that they’re all looking forward to most – the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on 8 July.
Speaking at the launch of the ‘Back The Brits’ campaign Damon Hill commented, “We need to be very proud of the four British drivers we have in Grand Prix racing this year. Silverstone’s ‘Back The Brits’ campaign is to show support for our ‘England Squad’ and, of course, our Scottish Captain Coulthard. †When asked how it feels to win Britain’s only round of the FIA FORMULA 1â„¢ World Championship, at Silverstone, and how it would feel for any one of the ‘Brit Pack’, Damon commented, “You can’t beat winning the British Grand Prix, it really is a fantastic feeling mainly because you’re on home soil, and it is legendary for a British driver to win at Silverstone. â€
Richard Phillips, Managing Director of Silverstone Circuits Limited, commented, “It’s fantastic that we’ve got four British drivers to get behind, and while Jenson Button and David Coulthard have experienced it all before, the 8 July will be a very big day for both Lewis Hamilton and Anthony Davidson. One thing’s for sure – they can expect a fantastic reception from the Silverstone crowd. â€
