Every Driver Dreams of Adding His Name to The Historic List of Winners at The Monaco F1 Grand Prix
May 24, 2007
The month of May might be a phrase synonymous with Indianapolis, but when it comes to F1, May always means one thing: Monaco. Every driver dreams of adding his name to the historic list of winners of the race through the streets of the Principality. The reigning world champions triumphed in 2006. This year, the ING Renault F1 Team arrives in Monte-Carlo with the ambition of taking another step forward in performance. The R27 showed signs of progress in Spain – although refuelling problems masked them – and demonstrated that the team is working in the right direction, staying united and solving the problems one by one. It’s an attitude that makes Bob Bell proud of his troops.
Mistakes will be punished
Last week, the team took full advantage of four days of testing at Le Castellet to prepare not only for Monaco, but Montreal too. After finishing P7 in Barcelona, Heikki hopes to find his feet quickly on a circuit where he nearly won the GP2 race in 2005. As for his team-mate, Giancarlo has always been impressively fast in the narrow streets. But both Renault boys know that every mistake is punished in Monaco and the slightest imprecision could end their race…
So just a few miles down the road from the glitz and glamour of Cannes, the world of F1 will be making its own storylines on Sunday. Often a theatre for spectacular races, the famous rock will form the backdrop to another suspense-filled, action-packed production this year: the fifth race of the 2007 world championship. The lights will go out at 13:00 UK tie (14:00 CET) on Sunday. Don’t be late: you don’t want to miss the opening scene!
