The buzz of the formula one paddock at Silverstone will be experienced by five F1 fans, all of whom are living with serious illness, at the British Grand Prix on Saturday July 7. The special day has been organised by the Willow Foundation, a national charity set up by Arsenal legend, Bob Wilson and his wife, Megs, that funds and organises special days for seriously ill young adults (aged 16-40) throughout the UK.
The mad-keen F1 fans will get a tour of the paddock and hope to meet Grand Prix greats including Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button, David Coulthard, Anthony Davidson and Rubens Barrichello.
The group, aged between 16 and 36, are all living with a range of serious illnesses including cystic fibrosis, organ failure and various forms of cancer. The Willow Foundation’s special days offer young adults time out from treatment and enable them to spend quality time with friends and family. The day also creates precious memories for the future and what better way to create a lasting memory than for an F1 fan to be on the front line at the Grand Prix.
The charity has made this day possible with the generous help of Jackie Oliver, former Grand Prix driver and director of British Racing Drivers Club and Bernie Ecclestone, chief executive of Formula One Management (FOM).
