The United States Auto Club, for the eighth consecutive year, will serve as the host nation sanctioning club for the United States Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The 73-lap race for Formula One machines gets the green flag Sunday at 1 pm. The race will be the 50th under USAC sanction at the World’s Greatest Race Course.
Sunday’s race is the seventh in the 2007 World Championship season and British driver Lewis Hamilton of Team McLaren leads the standings after his victory in last Sunday’s Grand Prix of Canada in Montreal.
Track activity begins Friday, with Formula One qualifying Saturday. The Indy Pro Series, Formula BMW USA and MSA GT3 Cup competition are also part of the weekend. Races for Formula BMW USA, Indy Pro Series and IMSA GT3 are scheduled Saturday and again Sunday preceding the United States Grand Prix.
Under the supervision of USAC Chairman John Capels, USAC Race Director Bob Pierson and FIA Race Director, Safety Delegate and Permanent Starter Charlie Whiting, some 250-plus officials will assist IMS CEO Tony George and the IMS staff in presenting the event.
