Formula 1 In Versailles Is Like Paris Hilton At A MENSA Meeting

Le Figaro, the French national daily newspaper, today had a page two story about the role of Formula One in the municipal election campaign in Versailles. With the headline, “Formula 1 in pole position in the campaign, ” the article outlines how the battle to stage the French Grand Prix in Versailles is being used by politicians to promote their candidacy.

But it also says that the French minister of culture, Christine Albanel, is against it, since she says that Versailles has too many safeguarded historic monuments.

But the out-going mayor, Etienne Pinte, rejects this approach.

“We can see that Madame Albanel has not mastered motor sports, ” he said. “In a town like Monaco where there are a lot more constraints than in Versailles, there has never been a problem. ”

Even so, Pinte has proposed another idea for a location in Versailles
