Construction of a new Pit Wall at Silverstone is set to get underway on Monday 17 December when the existing wall will be replaced.
Taking up to six weeks to build, the new Pit Wall will fully comply with the latest FIA regulations and has been designed to withstand considerable impact loadings and speeds of more than 250kph.
The new wall – built with 10km of steel reinforcing bars; 1000 cubic metres of concrete; 330 metres of debris fencing and rear tubular handrail; and movement joints to control thermal expansion and contraction – is being worked on through the Christmas break by the construction team to ensure it is completed by the end of January 2008.
Circuit bosses have also confirmed that construction of the new Pit Wall is a separate project to the Silverstone Master Plan (the British Racing Drivers’ Club’s long term plan to redevelop the circuit), but is evidence of Silverstone’s commitment to continue to invest in the circuit and its facilities to benefit competitors, teams and fans.
