A1GP boss Tony Teixeira is interested in buying into Formula One after securing a deal with champions Ferrari to power his own series.
“I am looking around. I have been speaking to two or three different teams that are maybe available for sale, ” the South African businessman told Reuters in an interview on Thursday.
“If I find the right deal that makes sense… and it’s the right price and I think that I can get up to the top 10 positions in F1—I’m not going to do it to come last—then I will conclude a deal, ” he added. UK. Reuters
Teixeira was rumored to be in the running for the Spyker F1 team but he admits he stepped aside in that deal to allow Indian billionaire Vijay Mallya to buy the team with Dutch entrepreneur Michiel Mol.
He did admit that the Toro Rosso team is also in his sights. The F1 is currently co-owned by Austrian drink magnate Dietrich Mateschitz and former F1 driver Gerhard Berger. There have been rumors all season that all or some of Toro Rosso is up for sale but Berger has consistently denied those reports. TSN.ca
Toro Rosso and Spyker are each Ferrari-powered, although the latter has just been sold for $124-million (about R835-million) to a consortium led by Indian billionaire Vijay Mallya and Dutch entrepreneur Michiel Mol
Toro Rosso is half-owned by Austrian energy drink billionaire Dietrich Mateschitz, who also owns the Red Bull team, and Austria’s former Ferrari driver Gerhard Berger.
It showed its potential when German rookie Sebastian Vettel finished fourth in the Chinese GP on October 7. Motoring.co
