Fernando Alonso was quizzed by an Italian magistrates’ court investigating the McLaren and Ferrari ‘spygate’ affair on Tuesday.
The Spaniard was interviewed for two and a half hours by Giuseppe Tibis, the prosecutor heading the inquiry into the affair at the court in Modena near Ferrari headquarters. AFP
McLaren were stripped all their constructors points and were fined $100 million last month after being found guilty of benefitting from the possession of Ferrari information.
E-mails between Alonso and the team’s test driver Pedro de la Rosa about Ferrari were used as evidence in a hearing of the FIA, the sport’s governing body, which led to McLaren’s punishment. Metro
The McLaren driver was not under criminal investigation but considered to have knowledge of the facts in the case, ANSA said.
Alonso, who won the F1 title in 2005 and ‘06, spent more than two hours in the prosecutors’ office in Modena on Tuesday and left without making any statement to reporters.
The Spaniard is second in this season’s standings, four points behind fellow McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton with one race to go. CanadianPress
