Our pace was a bit better than I had expected and I think I could have kept Mark behind me, so it was a great shame that the race ended the way it did with the tyre letting go like that. The engineers will be looking at all the data now to find out what caused it, because at first I thought we had got the tyre pressures wrong, until I started to lose air.
So from here I’m going straight to the South of France where we are testing at the Ricard circuit and I’m due to drive on Tuesday and Thursday. Our main priority will be looking at the gearbox problems that gave us all that trouble in qualifying and maybe also some aero parts specifically for the next race on the streets of Monaco, where we run the most downforce of the whole year as it’s the slowest track on the calendar. We really need to get moving with our gearbox development and we will be pushing like hell at this test to get the quick shift box working properly in time for Monaco, but I think it’s going to be tight. After the Ricard test, I’ll get just a couple of days home in Austria and then it’s back to Monaco the Tuesday before the race for the glitziest event of the season.
