While demand for U.S. gasoline showed a 2 percent increase in February from a year ago, the plunging economy took its toll on diesel and jet fuel.
But fewer goods are being transported across the country because of the sagging economy, causing the demand for diesel fuel to fall 12 percent and jet fuel to drop 6.6 percent from a year ago, the report said.
Overall, the total oil-product demand fell 3 percent from a year ago, marking the lowest demand in February since 1999.
