The Spyker Formula One Team has concluded its two-day shakedown test with the new F8-VII at Silverstone Circuit, UK.
Taking over driving duties from Christijan Albers, Adrian Sutil completed 134 kilometres in a repeat of yesterday’s freezing and icy weather conditions. Once more the team concentrated on gathering engine and control systems data in advance of the F8-VII’s first true test in Barcelona, Spain, from 12 - 14 February.
Chief technical officer, Mike Gascoyne, commented, “It’s been another useful day of testing. We solved some minor mechanical issues we had yesterday and now head to Barcelona to continue the programme in warmer temperatures. Overall it was a very positive shakedown and a good basis to start from. “
The team covered 26 laps, however running was curtailed after Sutil ran slightly off-line onto an icy kerb and into the barriers, causing minor damage to the car. With temperatures dropping and heavy snow predicted in the early evening, the team took the decision to return to the factory and consolidate today’s data for the forthcoming test in Barcelona.
Adrian Sutil commented, “Today was actually very good for a first roll out, and the car was quick. This year’s car is definitely better than last year’s car and we had no real technical problems. I put in some quick lap times from the start and I could tell the engine was very, very good. Of course the end of the day was disappointing; I went on the kerb and touched a strip of damp grass - if you touch it you know you will have problems. It wasn’t a big crash, we will repair the car and get out back in time for Barcelona. “
The team will continue its testing programme next week with a three day test at Circuit de Catalunya, Spain, before the season starts in Melbourne, Australia, on 18 March.
