It sounds like a great idea, actually: Take the excess body fat from liposuction patients and use it to power your car. That’s what a Beverly Hills doctor figured, and he even bragged about it on his website LipoDiesel.com (now shut down). It even sounds like a California trend: Get thin and reduce America’s dependence on foreign oil all at the same time!
But sometimes the “cutting edge” of green goes too far, and California’s state medical authorities were not amused to learn of Dr. Bittner’s eco-friendly body fat recycling program. It is apparently illegal in the United States to use human body parts (even the parts people are throwing away) as fuel to power automobiles.
So now Dr. Alan Bittner’s clinic is closed, and liposuction patients have to get their fat sucked out somewhere else.
He took the fat from patients during liposuction procedures which were carried out in Beverly Hills, California.
Many of his patients have filed lawsuits against the U.S. surgeon. The lawsuits were due to claims that he allowed assistants and girlfriends to carry out the procedures for him.
This was despite the fact that the assistants and love interests did not have a medical livense of a ny kind.
He has since ended his practice, but has stated on his web site that the majority of his patients asked that he “use their fat for fuel.”

Surgeon Busted For Using Human Fat As Alternative Fuel
Many of the doctor’s patients said that he could use their fat to make his fuel. He has a big supply of fat now. However there could be effects from using fat that is being burned since it is medical waste and it does come from the body.
About eighty four of Doctor’s Bittner’s patients have filed complaints against him. These complaints have caused the local medical department to review Doctor Bittner’s actions.
Doctor Bittner should not have violated the law by making the fuel from the fat of his patients. Medical waste needs to be handled carefully because it has blood and germs from patients in it. There are strict protocols for handling and disposing of medical waste. Doctor Bittner did not follow these protocols and instead used medical waste for his own purposes.
