CAMS Unaware Of Plans To Bring International Events To Bunbury Circuit

CAMS has noted with interest various media reports out of Western Australia suggesting that the Bunbury International Circuit, developed and operated by Perth International Motorsport Management (PIMM), will host a number of international racing events in 2007 including rounds of Japan’s Formula Nippon Championship and the Japanese Super GT Series.
CAMS, the peak governing body of motor sport in Australia as delegated by the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), would normally be involved in discussions to host such events within Australia.
“Any legitimate international competition within Australia can only be organised under the auspices of the FIA and in this case, through their sole delegated authority for motor sport in Australia, CAMS, “ said Bob Glindemann, Acting Chief Executive Officer of CAMS.
“In this scenario the accepted protocol for the organisation developing the track should be to contact CAMS outlining their proposed plans for the event. An application for a track licence would normally follow and CAMS would then arrange inspections to ensure that all the correct approvals have been sought and that all necessary safety standards are in place. “
CAMS has also been in communication with its Japanese equivalent body, the Japan Automobile Federation (JAF) which confirm that they’ve been in contact with the management of both Formula Nippon and the Japanese Super GT Series to ensure that they have no intention of running their events in Western Australia outside of the FIA’s international authority.
“Formula Nippon indicated that they have had no contact with the circuit in question, whilst the Super GT promoters said that they have been approached by the circuit but were not keen to bring their event to Australia, and totally exclude the possibility of by-passing the JAF, “ said Masato Yamaguchi, the JAF Deputy Member to the FIA General Assembly.
“At this stage, CAMS has received no correspondence from PIMM regarding the proposed events, “ concluded Glindemann.
