Queensland s Damien Flack in the ex-Jim Richards Porsche GT3 Cup Car currently leads the Porsche Drivers Challenge points tally in the 2007 Australian GT Championship after round 3 held at the Mount Panorama circuit, Bathurst. (April 6-7).
Flack in the Roock Nexus Racing machine was the fastest qualifier of the Porsche Drivers Challenge competitors at Bathurst (P5) and placed 5th in the first race. However, his current points total of 244, 61 ahead of South Australia s Gary Dann might have been even greater had a spin in race 2 at the mountain not have dropped him back to 16th position before a great recovery drive to finish in 7th.
As for Dann, the first year GT Championship contender has plenty of racing miles under his belt and it is beginning to show. The ex-karter and motocross rider also had a successful season in the Lotus Trophy, and now behind the wheel of the Supaloc sponsored ex Bryce Washington 2005 GT Championship winning Porsche GT3 Cup Car he is really hitting his straps.
A first timer to Bathurst, Dann qualified in 15th but finished race 1 in 10th position and went further up the list to finish 8th in race 2.
Currently running third in the Porsche Challenge points is NSW based competitor Paul Tresidder in his Pelorus Property Group Porsche GT3 Cup Car. In his second year in the category, Tresidder suffered at Bathurst with a DNF in race 2 with a drive train failure but still has a healthy points tally of 165.5
In fourth position is Sven Burchartz driving the McPherson & Kelly Lawyers sponsored Porsche GT3 prepared by Sonic Motor Racing Services.
