Jack Perkins saved the best to last setting his quickest lap time on his very last lap out on circuit, in the process capturing the 16th quickest time for the session. “It wasn’t a bad day at all, but I thought I could have been a bit faster. The car certainly has top ten potential, I’ve just got to extract the best out of it tomorrow,” explained Jack.
The session wasn’t without incident for the #11 Jack Daniel’s Racing Commodore with Perkins suffering a high-speed spin at turn one midway through the session. “I was pushing to see just how far I could take the car and locked the rear brakes into turn one. It was a half spin but it did enough to peg back my confidence for a few laps,” he added.
Meanwhile team mate Shane Price had shown great form during the session and stopped to change over onto newer tyres to extract the maximum performance from his #7 Jack Daniel’s Holden.
“We knew we had good pace so I pushed hard to set a really competitive lap time but on my really fast lap the circuit went under red flag and what would have been the 13th fastest time was scratched,” said Price explaining that any driver completing a lap under red flag conditions has that time removed.
“Sure it’s disappointing but today is only practice, the real business starts tomorrow!” Price stated.
Both Perkins and Price proved their worth on the tight, technical Barbagallo Raceway circuit, despite neither driver having a huge amount of prior experience on the track. “I’ve got a bit more experience than Jack (Perkins) on this track because I raced Formula Ford’s here in 2005, but having said that driving a Formula Ford around here is totally different to driving a V8!” Shane said.
“It’s a track that I having no driving experience on whatsoever,” admitted Perkins. “But it’s a pretty small track so there aren’t so many corners to learn. I enjoyed today, we proved our pace is solid and consistent and it was good to push the car hard to learn what it’s capable of. I’m definitely looking forward to tomorrow’s race,” Perkins added.
