Mexico’s round of the World Touring Car Championship at Puebla has been replaced by Dutch circuit Zandvoort.

The Mexican track has been a part of the WTCC schedule for the past two years, but problems with the circuit have disrupted both rounds.

In 2005 a lack of run-off meant that there were several big accidents, while last year the newly-laid track surface was breaking up.

Circuit officials were set a deadline of December 31 by the FIA to complete the necessary modifications to the track.

A statement from the WTCC organisers said: “The requirements of this deadline have not been met by the organisers of the event.

“The FIA hopes that these requirements will be fulfilled in future and that the event may be considered for inclusion in the 2008 calendar.”

The Zandvoort round will take Puebla’s slot as the second round of the season, but it will take place on May 6 rather than the original date of April 15 scheduled for Puebla.
