Two Drivers Take Maiden Performance Car Poles At Wakefield

TWO drivers will take their maiden pole position starts in round one of the 2007 Australian Performance Car Championship at Wakefield Park, Goulburn, tomorrow.

Series stalwart Barrie Nesbitt jumped from sixth-fastest in practice yesterday to outright pole in today s qualifying session, putting his bulky Holden HSV Coupe around the 2.2 kilometre circuit in one minute 5.7073 seconds.

Newcomer Anthony Loscialpo, in a Holden HSV GTS, ousted teammate Jim Pollicina for pole in the Privateers class.

Drivers will contest races of 18 laps and 36 laps tomorrow at the Fujitsu V8 Supercars meeting. Race two features a reverse-grid start and compulsory tyre change, which seem certain to create some excitement on the tight Wakefield track.

Another factor in the outcome of the round may be the performance of the new Pirelli control tyres, which will be used in the championship for the next three years.
