Colin Turkington (Portadown) continues to compete with WSR in the distinctive orange livery of RAC switching to the BMW from last years MG ZS where at the corresponding fixture he twice stepped onto the podium taking second place on both occasions.

Fresh from testing his new race craft and looking forward to a return to the Kent circuit in a rear-wheel drive car he said: “I managed to get some mileage on the car at Pembrey and by the end of the second day the times were good. We ve still got some set-up work to do and it s difficult to know at this stage just how competitive we re going to be. At the Rockingham media launch the loan car was quick but I feel that this package is better still.

“I shall be aiming for a podium finish at Brands Hatch and the realism of this should be evident after Saturday s qualifying. “

Having been the younger driver in previous WSR squads, Colin can now be classed as the team veteran at the tender age of 25! He commented: “I guess it is a bit of a turnaround for me as I ve always been the young kid with lots to learn. Now I have to do what I can to help Tom as much as possible. He s great to work with and I m looking forward to our season together. “

As Team RAC team-mate Tom Onslow-Cole lines up on the grid this weekend, he will not only be making his BTCC debut but will also be the youngest driver on the grid at just 19-years-old. Barely unable to contain his excitement, Tom said: “I can t wait for the weekend to get started. I m really excited about being part of the British Touring Car Championship, but the thought of lining up along side some of the country s biggest names is a little stomach churning. I m sure by the time I get to race one on Sunday that will have sunk in.

“I m not sure which drivers or cars will be at the front this season so can t say who will be the biggest opposition, as this will be the first time we ve all run together.

“As a driver I always want to win but realistically if I can qualify in the top eight and finish all three races there or thereabouts then I will come away happy! “
