Jaap Van Der Voort, Tiemen Stelwagen, Janne Leppanen, Roope Kolu, and Tuulia Miettenin have teamed up and announced designs for an all electric, zero emissions vehicle that would be capable of running anywhere, including water.
The newly designed hybrid, aptly named ‘Amphibious Hybrid’ has the capability to analyse the terrain its on and adjust the tires automatically. The tires can then alter themselves depending on the type of terrain. The tires remain standard for a car while driving normally, but once the terrain is altered as in snow or ice the tires open up to enhance the vehicles grip on the road. Electric.co.uk
For example, should the sensors detect that you’re driving over ice or through snow, then they would tell the car’s wheels to “open up a little bit” to increase surface area and traction.

And you wouldn’t have to turn back when you reach Brighton, either, because the car’s wheels can transform themselves into a sort of paddle steamer design - keeping you going all the way to France.

Quite what each of the Amphibious Hybrid’s three wheels would be made from hasn’t been mentioned, but we assume each would consist of 10 tyre-like panels. Reg Hardware
