The Citroen GT is a £1million dream motor created by the French firm and the makers of video game Gran Turismo to bring the virtual and real worlds together - and as London found out this week it is very real.
Starting the GT was like firing up a jet as you flick two red switches then two more before pressing a button on the dash that unleashes a sound that could wake the dead.
And the GT is even more incredible because it’s a Citroen and not the Lamborghini it feels it should be, although only the bold double chevrons on the grille give any indication that it comes from a firm better known for their people carriers than super cars.
As early-morning commuters started to hit the road, the reaction from motorists and pedestrians was one of shock and almost disbelief… as if they were witnessing an alien landing.

Only the two racing seats in black leather would fit today’s scene, while the wraparound sculpted centre console scattered with toggle switches in military alloy gives the GT the feel of a Tomorrow’s World fighter jet.
Remarkably there is only an LED head-up display directly in front of the driver, presumably so you are not distracted and can concentrate fully on guiding the GT.
And always there is that sound… a volcanic roar that no video game sound effects can replicate. This is the real thing, courtesy of a 500bhp V8 engine fitted to the concept.
Citroen say they are seriously considering building a handful of GTs to go on sale because of the interest since it has been shown at motor shows all over the world in the last few months. Some potential buyers said that money would be no object to acquire the car.
