On Tuesday, Hyundai launched two more versions of its premium hatchback i20 – the 1.4-litre diesel CRDi, priced at Rs 619,800-720,430 and the 1.4-litre automatic transmission petrol version, priced between Rs 731,130-772,301 (all prices ex-showroom, New Delhi). The diesel variant comes with a manual transmission.
Hyundai Motors India Ltd (HMIL) registered sales of 42,524 units in June in the A2 segment, which comprises the Santro, Getz and i20. “We are targeting to sell 4,000 units of the i20 per month in the domestic market – 2,200 of the diesel variants and 1,800 of the petrol versions,” H S Lheem, MD, HMIL said. The car maker is planning to increase production capacity in the country to meet domestic and international demands by increasing one shift to three shifts per day this month. On future plans, Mr. Lheem said the company was planning to launch Santa Fe SUV in 2010, and also exploring the possibilities of rolling out a car smaller than Santro in the domestic market. The company planned to start producing diesel engines at its Chennai plant by 2010.

Apart from this, the company also announced that it plans to export seven lakh units of its vehicles in 2009 along with exporting its premium hatchback, the i20, to Australia and New Zealand.
Speaking with the media persons, Arvind Saxena, HMIL Senior Vice-President (Sales & Marketing) said: “We plan to export seven lakh units this year but it will all depend on how the market conditions are.” TopNews
