As referenced above, a major engine explosion ended Del Worsham’s final qualifying effort in Phoenix, leaving him short of the field and leaving his primary CSK Monte Carlo body missing much of the entire left side.
Whereas many teams would have immediately considered the body “trash” or would have sent it off to a third party for extensive repairs, Chuck Worsham immediately saw a project into which he could dive. “We’ve fixed worse, ” the elder Worsham said.
“We kept the Havoline body we broke last year in Richmond, and it has a piece from the left side that we can graft right in there. It’s hard work, but we’ve always fixed our own stuff and this one will be no different. When we get to Gainesville, it will be fixed, repainted, and ready for vinyl. No problem. ”
