Tony Bartone, driver of the Jim Dunn-owned Chevrolet Monte Carlo Funny Car was defeated in the first round of eliminations at the 38th annual ACDelco Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway by drag racing veteran, Ron Capps.
When the pair matched up in their competitive first round, Bartone launched hard receiving get his best 60 foot time of the weekend, but dropped a cylinder around midway through the run thus resulting in a loss of power. Capps won the round with an elapsed time of 4.787 seconds, 326.08 mph to Bartone’s time of 5.282 seconds, 201.49 mph.
