Cory McClenathan climbed from 15th to ninth place with a 4.532-second run at 330.32 mph late Friday night as qualifying began for Sunday’s Torco Racing Fuels Route 66 Nationals at Route 66 Raceway.
Several lengthy oil downs delayed qualifying for about two hours before McClenathan was able to make his first run in the Scott Griffin Motorsports FRAM Top Fuel dragster. He was forced to shut off early and coasted to the finish line in 7.599 seconds.
Two more runs are scheduled Saturday to set the field for Sunday’s race.
