Cory McClenathan Defeates Morgan Lucas On A Slight Hole-Shot At Mac Tools U.S. Nationals

It didn’t quite turn out to be the Mac Tools U. S. Nationals that Morgan Lucas had hoped for as he was defeated by Cory McClenathan, on a slight hole-shot. Both cars left with nearly identical reaction times (. 069 -. 075), but at the end of the quarter-mile sprint, Lucas was in arrears by the slim margin of only five-thousandths of a second (. 005).
Lucas ran an elapsed time of 4.620 seconds, 326.71 mph to Cory Mac’s matching run of 4.621 seconds, 321.58 mph.
The Brownsburg, Ind. resident recorded a time of 4.537 seconds, 325.45 mph from his Saturday night run to qualify in the No. 8 position.
He remains in the No. 15 slot in the NHRA POWERade Top Fuel points standings with 549 after the completion of 18 of 23 events.
Up next for the Lucas Oil team will be the 20th annual O’Reilly Mid-South Nationals on Sept. 14 – 16 at Memphis Motorsports Park in nearby Millington, Tennessee.
