Cory McClenathan parlayed a near-perfect reaction time with the round’s second-quickest elapsed time and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Toyo Tires Nationals Sunday at Maple Grove Raceway.
The second round, however, will not be run until Monday because a steady rain forced NHRA officials to postpone competition until Tuesday morning.
McClenathan’s .011-second reaction (.000 is perfect) gave him a large lead even before his 4.526-second elapsed time lit the win light against Larry Dixon. Dixon had to pedal the throttle and was timed in 4.702 seconds at 319.07 mph.
“That light was just a very good guess,” said McClenathan. “I would like to take this opportunity to say I was leaving then either way. The timing was good. I feel good our win and the elapsed time.”
