NHRA: Doug Kalitta And The Mac Tools Team See Red In NHRA Finals

Kalitta Racing

At the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals at the Auto Club Raceway at Pomona in Pomona, Calif., the final event of the 2007 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Doug Kalitta, driver of the “Big Red” Mac Tools Top Fuel dragster, unfortunately saw the big red bulb light up on the “tree” with a foul start in round one.

Kalitta paired up with J. R. Todd in the opening salvo. Kalitta, the No. 15 qualifier, and the Mac Tools team knew that they would need a great lap against No. 2 qualifier Todd, but Kalitta was just a skosh anxious to get the battle underway and left the starting line. 034 seconds too soon. Todd, coincidentally, had no problems in his lane and clicked the finish line timers in 4.496 sec., 334.24 mph.

Kalitta finishes the 2007 season in 10th place in POWERade championship points, his tenth consecutive season with a top ten finish.

The Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals was the 23rd of 23 national events in the 2007 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.
