The first race for a fledgling Pro Stock team with a new supplier of horsepower is a lot like a first date. It just takes awhile to get to know each other.
Justin Humphreys and prominent engine builder Richard Maskin got over that awkward stage two weeks ago at Las Vegas.
Now, after two days and nine test laps at Valdosta, Ga., Humphreys is excited about his future with Maskin and Dart Engineering supplying the power for his Knoll-Gas Energy Pontiac GTO in what is arguably the most competitive NHRA professional category. He has, after all, been on the opposite end of the close qualifying calls several times already in his five-race NHRA Pro Stock career.
