Infineon Raceway will look to set the bar in a personal challenge it has issued to Maple Grove Raceway during this year’s 20th FRAM Autolite NHRA Nationals, July 27-29.

Following the 2006 NHRA event at Maple Grove Raceway in Pennsylvania, Infineon Raceway President and General Manager Steve Page issued a challenge as to which facility could post the quickest elapsed time for a single Pro Stock Motorcycle run in 2007.  Both facilities have historically hosted some of the quickest and fastest Pro Stock Motorcycle passes on the NHRA circuit.

In addition to bragging rights, the raceways have each wagered a signature item from their regions.  Page has offered a case of premium Sonoma Valley wine, while Maple Grove Vice President George Case has bet Shoo-fly pie for the entire Infineon Raceway staff.

“We have a team of sommeliers working to determine the appropriate varietals and vintage that pair best with a delicious Maple Grove Shoo-fly pie.  I can’t wait,” said Page.

“Since last year, we have milled and polished the track surface in hopes of seeing performance gains for the bikes, as well as the race cars,” said Case.  “Back East, we are already planning our party with the wine Steve and his crew will be sending us.”

The Pro Stock Motorcycle class made its debut at Infineon Raceway in 2002, with Craig Treble taking the inaugural victory.  Since then, the Pro Stock Motorcycle class has become a popular attraction, with Infineon Raceway’s racing surface and proximity to sea level allowing for track and national records to be set and reset almost every year.

Four Pro Stock Motorcycle riders cracked the six-second barrier at Infineon Raceway in 2006, and the event featured one of the quickest Pro Stock Motorcycle fields in NHRA history.  In addition, Antron Brown and Tom Bradford became the third and fourth members, respectively, of the Mickey Thompson Six-Second Pro Stock Motorcycle Club.  Chip Ellis also reset the Infineon Raceway Pro Stock Motorcycle elapsed-time record in 2006 with a 6.911-second pass.

“It’s an amazing facility and it’s always one of the tracks that I look forward to racing at the most,” said Harley-Davidson rider Andrew Hines, who won at Infineon Raceway in 2005.  “All of the riders love to go as fast as possible and the conditions and location of Infineon make it a great place to do it. Infineon is the perfect place for a competitive person like me who loves to go fast.”
